Buy a new bike.  If you are a member of staff at the University and you meet the criteria, then you should look first of all at the salary sacrifice cycle purchase scheme.  This will save you up to 40% on the cost of a new bike.   We have a list of cycle shops - including those that are part of the CycleScheme scheme.

Buy a second hand bike.  There are a few shops that sell second hand bikes and the Police also auction off unclaimed cycles periodically. The University's outdoor centre at Coniston also has some bikes for sale [11/04/11]

Or maybe borrow one from a friend or hire one to make sure cycling is right for you.
