West Gate/University Station scheme - Monday morning chaos!
Work began on Monday 9th January 2012 on the new public transport interchange that will see the removal of the roundabout outside the Medical School. Were they ready in time I wonder?

Please take care whilst the contractors fine tune the layout as there are new road markings, diversions and a lot of cones.
An updated / expanded plan of the interchange is available as a PDF document here and it shows the new pedestrian crossing and the new Toucan crossing that will be available when the scheme is completed. The wider picture of the layout of this area remains available as a PDF document here. [09/01/2012]

South Gate Junction reopened
The most cyclist-used entrance to the Edgbaston Campus, the South Gate, has reopened after 20 months of disruption caused by the building of Aston Webb Boulevard. As expected cyclists suffered in its first implementation - there is no Advanced Stop Line (ASL) on Bournbrook Road and the lights at the South Gate and Bournbrook Rd both seemed to fail to respond to cyclists. BUBUG has been in discussions with the City Council about all these problems. Cyclists are now detected at least at the South Gate. The excuse given for a lack of ASL on the other side is the curious arrangement of allowing cars out of Arley Road to enter Bournbrook Road by the lights. [18/05/2011]
